According to statistics, alcohol impaired drivers who are arrested have an average blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .20%, which is more than double the level set for legal intoxication. However, this next statistic is perhaps the most disturbing and most specific reason for all magistrates to order an interlock installed in a convicted probationers vehicle. "The relative risk of being killed, or involved in a crash where the drivers BAC is .08% to .10% is anywhere between 11 and 52 times greater than drivers at 0.00% (no alcohol) And as the BAC gets higher, so does the risk. "And just as disturbing is the fact that although young adults between 16 and 24 years old comprise only 20% of the total licensed population, and represent 20% of the total vehicle miles traveled in the U.S. by all licensed drivers, they cause a staggering 42% of all fatal alcohol related crashes.

Frightening statistics? You're right, they are, and something must be done about it now. These statistics are a shocking enigma that can only be stopped by you, the magistrates who enforce DWI laws.
